  • The Morris B. Whitson Tennis Stadium is now under construction at Memorial Park. Large rock formation sunderground have slowed progress, but the stadium is now projected to be completed by late summer. The dedication ceremony will be held in September in conjunction with an AHS Women's Team match. The siz original courts will be resurfaced in 2012. Modern lighting will be provided for all nine courts.

    The RCTA is grateful to Bruce Voncannon, the City of Asheboro, former AHS players and the general public for the donations which made the stadium construction possible.   • RCTA is busy raising funds to help the City of Asheboro to finance construction of the Morris B. Whitson Tennis Stadium at Memorial Park. The project is the brainchild of former Asheboro high School tennis star Bruce Voncannon, '72. He is donating $25,000 to the project, the city is funding $25,000 and RCTA is providing $25,000.
  • RCTA and the city are sponsoring the Morris B. Whitson Tennis Celebration on Saturday, May 22 from 10:00 - 3:00. Former AHS tennis players, their families and interested person from the community are coming together for an informal doubles tournament, a pig picking and fellowship to raise money for the Whitson Stadium. The Tournament and lunch is $15.00. Donations may be mailed to:
